26 February 2016 – The United Nations Security Council today extended the mandate of the UN Integrated Peace-Building Office in Guinea-Bissau, known as UNIOGBIS, for an additional 12 months so that it can continue to assist the country in its path towards peace and reform.

Under its renewed mandate, which will begin on 1 March 2016 until 28 February 2017,UNIOGBIS will continue to focus on supporting an inclusive political dialogue and national reconciliation process to strengthen democratic governance and work toward

17 February 2016 – The political impasse in Guinea-Bissau could delay implementation of critical reforms and erode progress in the West African country’s development, the United Nations envoy there warned the Security Council today.

New York/Bissau,1 February 2016 -  The Guinea-Bissau Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) is concerned by the political and institutional tensions in Guinea-Bissau. This situation is troubling insofar as it is causing an unnecessary climate of uncertainty in the country.

Bissau, 18 January 2016 (UNIOGBIS/PIU) - The New Year brought more tension to the political scene in Guinea-Bissau. A group of 15 MPs of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC) joined those of the main opposition Party for Social Renewal (PRS) thus obtaining the majority, and decided to continue parliamentary proceedings after the Parliament Speaker, Cipriano Cassama, suspended the 18 January session on the government program, due to disturbances in the room.

Bissau, 31 December 2015 - The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS), through its Sections and Units, including Political Affairs, Gender and Public Information supported from 27-29 December, the training of civil society organizations and women’s groups on communication, advocacy and lobby, simultaneously in Bafata, Buba and Sao Domingos.

Bissau, 14 December (UNIOGBIS/PIU) - The Heads of the United Nations Peace Missions in West Africa held their Twenty- eighth high-level consultation meeting on 11 December 2015 in Abidjan. The bi-annual meeting was chaired by Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA).

Bissau 10 December (UNIOGBIS / PIU) - Human rights have been widely celebrated In Guinea-Bissau through a range of activities combined in 15 days of activism- “Quinzena dos Direitos” (Fortnight of Rights), which had its highest point on Human Rights Day, December 10, with an official ceremony at the Government Palace in Bissau. The event was chaired by the Minister of Justice and attended by the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Marco Carmignani.

The Confederation of Associations of Defense and Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Guinea-Bissau wants all barriers to integration and inclusion of people with disabilities in Guinea-Bissau to be eliminated.
