Since 1995, 16 November has been celebrated around the world as the International Day of Tolerance, based on UNESCO's Declaration of Principles on Tolerance. Although in Guinea-Bissau the date has never been observed, everyone agrees that this is a country of tolerance and respect for diversity.
On October 24, Guinea-Bissau marked 71 years of existence of the United Nations with the inauguration of peace murals and film screenings in Bissau and in the regions on the new objectives of sustainable development.
On 10 November, the Civil Society Movement, the Free Citizens' Movement, the National Youth Council and the National Youth Network launched a civic education campaign on citizenship and democratic culture across the country with the support of UNIOGBIS.

Due to this situation, the country has lost many business and investment opportunities, according to economists. The support of international donors at the 2015 Brussels Round Table has also been suspended. The political impasse has dragged the country into an unprecedented socioeconomic crisis and people fear a new civil war in the country.
New York/Bissau, 20 October (UNIOGBIS/PIU) – The Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS), Modibo Ibrahim Touré, today briefed the Members of the Security Council on the inclusive dialogue among political leaders, civil society and religious communities of Guinea-Bissau held in Conakry on 11-14 October.
The Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, who is also Director of the Regional Office for Africa of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Chair of the UN Development Group (UNDG) for Africa, Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye ended his visit to Guinea-Bissau between on 5 October 2016.
15 September - On a statement released yesterday the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Guinea-Bissau, Mr. Modibo Ibrahim Touré, welcomed the signing in Bissau, on 10 September 2016, of a roadmap for exiting from the political crisis and affirmed that the United Nations remains committed to assist the country in this regard.
