UN ASG Abdoulaye Dieye called for a swift implementation of the ECOWAS roadmap for stability

The Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, who is also Director of the Regional Office for Africa of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Chair of the UN Development Group (UNDG) for Africa, Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye ended his visit to Guinea-Bissau between on 5 October 2016.

UN ASG Abdoulaye Dieye called for a swift implementation of the ECOWAS roadmap for stability

Mr. Mar’s two-day visit aimed at reaffirming and strengthening the support of the United Nations, and in particular UNDP,  to the country's efforts in achieving its development priorities in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations will met with the Guinea-Bissau authorities, civil society representatives and the United Nations team in the country.

At the end of the meeting with the ANP president, Mr. Dieye told the press that his visit was very fruitful, and that he managed to speak with all stakeholders: “I listened to their views on the partnership between Guinea-Bissau and UNDP, I conveyed the message that we are willing to strengthen that partnership, and I encouraged them to swiftly implement the ECOWAS brokered roadmap, because stability is crucial for the engagement of partners and to move towards sustainable development”.

Abdoulaye Mar Dieye was appointed Assistant Administrator and Director of UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in July 2013.
