Bissau, June 7, 2016 - We are in the middle of the child fortnight which runs from 1 to 16 June, and includes the celebrations of the International Children's Day on 1June, World Day Against Child Labour on 12 June, and African Child Day on 16 June. The Children's Parliament of Guinea-Bissau seized the opportunity to warn that "the rights of the Guinean children continue to be violated" and to called on the leaders of the country consider the good of future generations."

Bissau, 3 June 2016 (UNIOGBIS) - World Environment Day celebration on 5 June focuses on wildlife illegal trade. According to the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations and many of its partners have decided to tackle this illegal trade by establishing clear goals to end poaching in the new Sustainable Development Goals, approved last year by all 193 Member States.

The document portrays a bleak picture of the judicial system in the country.

22 May 2016 - The situation of prolonged political instability and, therefore deeply rooted in the consciousness of the Bissau Guinean society has raised a number of questions on how to find the solution for peace and to develop. After an 11 year-long struggle for independence, Guinea-Bissau only lived a few years of peace before, in 1998, plunging into a political and military conflict, the consequences of which remain in the political, economic and social spheres.

Bissau, 17 May 2016 (UNIOGBIS / PIU) - The Configuration for Guinea-Bissau of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) acknowledged on Monday the effective preventive and deterrent role of the ECOWAS Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ECOMIB), and called on the international community to mobilize technical and financial resources and political support, to ensure the extension of its mandate beyond 30 June this year, the expiry date.
