Guinea-Bissau entered the New Year with its not so new problems – a political impasse which has blocked institutions and undermined the population’s living conditions and hampered development. In spite of the political tension, the Bissau-Guinean people continue committed to non-violence.

The “House of Rights,” in partnership with various national and international organizations involved in the defense of human rights in Guinea-Bissau, have organized a fortnight for the promotion of human rights in the framework of the celebration of the Human Rights Day on 10 December.

On 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Violence against Women, a 16 day campaign of activism was launched in Guinea-Bissau, composed of several community awareness activities and will end on 10 December - International Human Rights Day.

The high-level ECOWAS delegation ended today a three-day mission in Bissau, “stressing the urgent need for Bissau-Guinean stakeholders to work resolutely towards the effective implementation of the Bissau and Conakry Agreements.”

The United Nations family marked UN Day – 24 October, at the Headquarters of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office-UNIOGBIS- in Bissau and at its Bafata regional Office, with over 300 youth from different schools and neighbourhoods associations.

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office (UNIOGBIS) organizes on 4-5 October, at Hotel Lisboa in Bissau, a workshop for political party officials and their communication officers on what to do and how to communicate more effectively with their constituencies and with the media, to promote sustainable peace and development in the country.

Under the theme "Literacy in a Digital World" was celebrated on 8 September 2017 the International Day of Literacy, instituted by UNESCO in 1965 with the aim of eradicating illiteracy around the world.

The Organizing Committee of the National Conference (COCN) – “Paths to Peace and Development” celebrated, for the first time, in partnership with the United Nations, International Day of Peace on 21 September.
