Recent incidents worry international partners

23 October 2012 - Guinea-Bissau's international partners today expressed serious concern at developments that occurred on 21 and 22 October 2012 in Bissau, and called on the authorities to respect and safeguard the fundamental rights of all citizens.

In a joint communiqué issued at a meeting held on 23 October at the UN Integrated Peace-building Office in Guinea-Bissau, UNIOGBIS, they also advocated actions to promote an inclusive national dialogue as a means of finding lasting peaceful solutions to Guinea-Bissau's problems.

Participants in the meeting, which was the latest fortnightly meeting Guinea-Bissau's international partners, included representatives of UNIOGBIS, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the EU and bilateral partners.
