IDN/UNIOGBIS conference

27 February 2014 - A cycle of conferences entitled "Role of the Armed forces in a Democracy” and “Role of the Armed forces in Socio-Economic Development of the Country" was held in Bissau, by the National Defense Institute (IND Portuguese acronym) with technical and financial support of UNIOGBIS.

This is the 4th cycle of conferences - after three others already undertaken in Quebo (Southern Military Region), Gabu (eastern Military Zone ) and Mansoa ( Northern Military Zone ) .

The opening ceremony was attended by Soares Sambu, Minister of Economy and Regional Integration, Colonel Salvador Soares on behalf of the Minister of the Interior, military commanders, Colonel Bacar Aladjé Djassi, Commander of Military Zone Center, Antero Lopes, Chief of ROLSI / UNIOGBIS, and some African diplomats.

The first three cycles of conference held in different military units within the country were attended by several civil organizations, as well as by governors, traditional leaders, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Services (CCIAS), NGOs and representatives of the public health, among others.

This 4th round of the conference, which took place at the Military Zone Center (Bissau), involves dozens of military, civilians and representatives of NGOs.
