Human Rights judicial instruments

25 February 2014 - A seminar on the implementation mechanisms of international and national legal instruments to promote human rights , for the Public Order Police ( POP ) , Judicial Police ( PJ ) , prosecutors and judicial officials, civil society organizations of the regions of Biombo and Bissau , was inaugurated by the Special Representative of the Secretary General ( SRSG ) , José Ramos-Horta , in the Ministry of Justice.

For the organization of the National Committee of Elimination of harmful practices (CNAPN), the training aimed to raise awareness among 45 participants about the importance and responsibility that hang down on them concerning the application of national and international judicial instruments for the protection of human rights of women and children.

In his speech, José Ramos-Horta said that one of the ways to eliminate violence against women is for woman to be a political leadership, have economic power and independence. He sensitized the political parties for a greater effort to include more women in their lists to occupy decision-making positions.

In 2013, the CNAPN recorded in five regions of the country, respectively Oio, Bafata, Gabu, Quinara and Tombali , 125 cases of violation of human rights of women and children.

The event was attended by the Minister of Justice, Mamadu Saido Embalo, representatives of UNICEF and civil society.
