Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations Sign new Partnership Framework

Partnership Framework between the Government of Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations team for the period 2016-2020 will be signed on April 28, Thursday at 09:00 in the government palace by the UN Secretary general's Special Representative for Peacebuilding in Guinea-Bissau, Miguel Trovoada and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Artur Silva.

Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations Sign new Partnership Framework

In this new partnership framework, the Government and the United Nations have agreed to focus on four key areas of intervention:

  1. The State institutions, including defense, security, and justice, consolidate the stability and Rule of law, democratic participation, and equitable access to opportunities for all. Specifically, in the area of political governance and the promotion and protection of human rights, the reform of defense and security and in the field of justice and public administration, including local governance.
  2. Inclusive and sustainable economic growth, to promote poverty reduction, decent jobs, food security, and the structural transformation of the economy.
  3. Equitable, sustainable access the health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, water, sanitation and hygiene, education, and quality protection services for all citizens, especially the most marginalized and vulnerable.
  4. Promotion of the sustainable management of the environment and natural resources, risk management, and disaster prevention by public institutions, Civil Society Organizations, and the private sector

The signing of this Partnership Framework as a foundation for cooperation is the common desire of expression of both parties to further strengthen their partnership to consolidate peace and promote the development of Guinea-Bissau.

The framework partnership, drafted jointly by the Government and the United Nations team, since the end of 2014, also expresses the commitment of the Government and the United Nations country team in progressively strengthen the operationalization of the approach 'Together in Action', capitalizing the lessons learned and best practices to the implementation of the UN Framework Plan to Help development (UNDAF) 2008-2012.

This framework partnership also reaffirms the commitment of both parties on the commitments of partnership of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Accra Agenda for Action, in particular, Ownership, Alignment, Harmonization, Management focused on results (GCR) and mutual responsibility.
