UNIOGBIS conducts monitoring visit to political parties in the regions
During their stay in Buba, (Quinara region), UN political advisers held separate meetings with members of the regional government and political parties, specifically MADEM-G15, PAIGC, APU-PDGB and PRS, to discuss lessons-learned from the March 10 legislative elections, and prospects for the presidential election scheduled for November this year. Political parties stressed the importance of regional good coexistence, but opponents are concerned about the last census process, which "has left many people unable to vote in the area."
After the political parties, the delegation met with civil society organizations and NGOs operating in the region. Several concerns were raised during the meeting, including lack of clean water, energy, poor road conditions, education and health.
Visits will also be held in the Tombali region, (Catio and Bedanda sectors), and the Cabuxaque sections, to learn about the pollution situation in relation to the elections and the socio-economic living conditions in the most remote villages in the country.
