SRSG Ramos-Horta received by the President of Mozambique

17 April 2013 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Guinea-Bissau, José Ramos-Horta, was received on Wednesday 17 April 2013 in Maputo by the President of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza.During his meeting with President Guebuza in exercise of Mozambique's presidency of the Community of Portuguese-Language Countries (CPLP), the Special Representative reviewed the situation in Guinea-Bissau and efforts under way to find solutions. Mr. Ramos-Horta later had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Mozambique, Oldemiro Baloi.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Guinea-Bissau, José Ramos-Horta, was received on Wednesday 17 April 2013 in Maputo by the President of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza.

During his meeting with President Guebuza in exercise of Mozambique's presidency of the Community of Portuguese-Language Countries (CPLP), the Special Representative reviewed the situation in Guinea-Bissau and efforts under way to find solutions. .

Mr. Ramos-Horta later had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Mozambique, Oldemiro Baloi.

The Special Representative arrived on Tuesday in Maputo for a two-day visit within the framework of his consultations with Guinea-Bissau's various partners with a view to fostering the realisation of a common approach among the CPLP, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Union (AU), European Union (EU) and the UN on the restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau.

Last week he met with the President and Prime Minister of Cape Verde in Praia, after meeting with the Presidents of Gambia and Senegal respectively and members of the diplomatic corps based in the Senegalese capital, Dakar. He also had talks with Cape Verde's Foreign Minister and his Brazilian counterpart, who made stopovers in Praia to meet the Special Representative and discuss the situation in Guinea-Bissau.

The Special Representative is accompanied, on this visit, by the Special Representative of the AU in Guinea-Bissau, Ovidio Pequeno, and CPLP Executive Secretary, Murade Murargy.
