SRSG calls PGR to conclude investigations

16 de Dezembro de 2013 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Guinea-Bissau, José Ramos-Horta, expressed hope and expectation that the Prosecutor General's Office will complete the investigation into the lynching of a Nigerian citizen and the attack on the Nigerian Embassy in Bissau, on 8 October.

The SRSG's statement is subsequent to the position of the General Prosecutor (PGR), Abdu Mane, during an appearance on 12 December before at the National Assembly.

Statement by SRSG José Ramos -Horta:

I was informed by the President of the Republic, Serifo Nhamajo, in one of our meetings some two months ago, that the investigations into the lynching of a Nigerian citizen and the attack on the Nigerian Embassy in Bissau were at the conclusion stage. This was corroborated by the Prosecutor General, Mr. Abdu Mane, who said there were some elements suggesting that those incidents were orchestrated.

I am surprised with the recent statement by the Attorney General, according to which it is impossible to complete the investigation due to an alleged lack of vehicles.

But the fact is that State institutions in Guinea-Bissau have enough cars which could be used for this purpose.

I am sure that the authorities of Guinea-Bissau are still aware of the extreme gravity of these individual cases and I do hope that everything would be done according to the law, so that these incidents and other crimes and atrocities committed in the country would not remain unpunished, or forgotten.
