Closure of UNIOGBIS

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea‑Bissau (UNIOGBIS) was established on 26 June 2009. Its mandate ended on 31 December 2020, subsumed to the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Joint communiqué by the international partners of Guinea-Bissau ON THE ELECTORAL PROCESS

The special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Guinea-Bissau communicates the Joint Statement agreed upon by the international partners of Guinea-Bissau after meetings at UNIOGBIS, on 14 January 2014, and at the Embassy of France, on 17 January 2014.

The international partners express their appreciation for the efforts undertaken by relevant transition authorities, with support from partners, towards the completion of a credible voters list. They express the hope that obstacles faced in the course of the process are solved and concerns are addressed in an expeditious manner, so that elections can be held as pledged on 16 March 2014.

The international partners reaffirm that relevant decisions of the Security Council, namely in regard to restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau, must be complied with and all stakeholders shall cooperate towards the holding of elections on the pledged date of 16 March 2014.
