19 de Novembro de 2013 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the United Nations, José Ramos-Horta, awarded on Tuesday, with the UN medal for Peace, two police officers from Brazil and one from Cape Verde during a ceremony held at UNIOGBIS.SRSG Ramos-Horta bestowed Captain Cláudio Prus, who spent 16 months in Guinea-Bissau, and Captain Ícaro Greinert, 14 months. Both from Brazil, received also a certificate in the presence of the Brazilian Ambassador in Bissau, Evaldo Freire.
On the same occasion, Inspector Antonieta Cunha, from Cape Verde, also was awarded the UN medal and a certificate after spending 18 months in Guinea-Bissau.
Ambassador Evaldo Freire praised the service rendered to the UN by policemen of his country "for peace, Human Rights and equality among nations". He also highlighted the "symbolic aspect of the Brazilian support since ever to the UN and mostly to the development of Guinea-Bissau.
Particularly concerning Captain Ícaro Greinert, the Brazilian Ambassador qualified as "relevant" the work done through Brazilian military support, which was of great importance to improve relations between Brazil and Guinea-Bissau and, particularly, gained remarkable importance within the UN.
