Closure of UNIOGBIS

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea‑Bissau (UNIOGBIS) was established on 26 June 2009. Its mandate ended on 31 December 2020, subsumed to the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

UNIOGBIS/PIU's training for community radios in Buba

14 November 2014 - UNIOGBIS Public Information Unit held on 13-14 November in Buba, south of the country, a two day training workshop activity on "Building Public Opinion in a Democratic State", the third of four covering all the nine regions of the country, in the framework of the Peacebuilding Fund's program titled "Strengthening the Media's Watchdog Role".It involved 11 trainees, mainly director and editors in chief of community radios, as well as representatives of civil society Human Rights and Gender organizations.

Buba training workshop activity, hosted by UNIOGBIS local office covered community radios from the regions of Quinara, Tombali, Bolama and Bijagos.

In total, at least 50 trainees will benefit directly from these workshops, following the capacity building provided to journalists in the first semester 2014 under PBSO/PBF/UNIOGBIS/PIU programme "Strengthening the Media's Watchdog Role".

The trainers, besides professional journalists, namely local, all of them foreign correspondents and the chairman of the union SINJOTECS, were accompanied by experts from all substantive sectors of UNIOGBIS: PAS, ROLSI, Human Rights and Gender, who also delivered their key note speeches on "Building Public Opinion in a Democratic State".
