Closure of UNIOGBIS

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea‑Bissau (UNIOGBIS) was established on 26 June 2009. Its mandate ended on 31 December 2020, subsumed to the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

29 December 2012- The United Nations System in Guinea-Bissau expresses its deepest condolences to the authorities and people of Guinea-Bissau for the lives lost during the boat tragedy of Friday 28 December 2012 and joins them in mourning this tragedy.

The United Nations System offers, in particular, its heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the persons who perished in this tragedy, while wishing them fortitude in this time of deep bereavement.
