Closure of UNIOGBIS

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea‑Bissau (UNIOGBIS) was established on 26 June 2009. Its mandate ended on 31 December 2020, subsumed to the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

SRSG & AU Representative meet President Nhamajo

10 January 2014 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) to Guinea-Bissau and his counterpart from African Union held a meeting with transition President of the Republic to debate the internal politic momentum in the country. The transition President, Serifo Nhamajo hosted José Ramos-Horta and Ovídio Pequeno at the Presidential Palace.
SRSG stated after the meeting, that they spoke namely about the “internal political difficulties faced by the two biggest political parties, Partido Africano para a Independência da Guiné e Cabo Verde-PAIGC (African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde) e o Partido da Renovação Social-PRS (Party for the Social Renovation).

José Ramos-Horta assured that he is in line with the AU Special Representative to Guinea-Bissau in order to “intensify efforts aiming at strengthening cooperation in order to help both PAIGC and PRS to overcome the their persistent problems”.
