Closure of UNIOGBIS

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea‑Bissau (UNIOGBIS) was established on 26 June 2009. Its mandate ended on 31 December 2020, subsumed to the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

ECOMIB learns Portuguese

25 February 2014 - The first course in Portuguese for foreigners and embassies in Guinea-Bissau was inaugurated by the Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG), José Ramos-Horta, at Brazilian Cultural Center. The ECOMIB security contingent of ECOWAS, are the target of this initiative, with the beginning of classes scheduled for 10 March .

Ramos-Horta congratulated the Embassy of Brazil and ECOMIB for their support in this period of elections and applauded the training given in February by UNIOGBIS to the military, for the election process: "It's easy to learn Portuguese with Brazilians because they have a simple and easy way to teach".
