Human Rights training on administration of Justice

29 November 2013 - The first phase of the training of judges, prosecutors and lawyers on Human Rights in the administration of Justice in Guinea-Bissau was closed today following a week of work that started on 22 November in Bissau.

The closing ceremony was chaired by the Director of the Judicial Training Center, Counselor Judge, Fernando Jorge Ribeiro, and the head of Human Rights Section of UNIOGBIS, Guadeloupe Sousa Reis.

The 72 participants were thus more familiar with the jurisprudence emanating from regional and international organizations for the protection of human rights, including treaties and special procedures of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN).

The initiative aimed at contributing to the administration of an independent, quick, credible and transparent justice in accordance with international law.

It also aimed at promoting a human rights culture based on the values of peace, respect for human dignity, justice and eradication of all forms of discrimination.

An appeal was made to participants to apply the knowledge acquired in the administration of justice, combating impunity and adopt international standards as part of domestic law to deal with human rights.

Finally, they were sensitized to ensure effective access to justice for the most vulnerable and to transform the hinge of human rights defenders in Guinea-Bissau.

In the framework of the worldwide celebrations of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender based violence, culminating on 10 December, Human Rights Day, UNIOGBIS Human Rights Section is showing since 28 November, a photo exhibition at the French-Bissau Guinean Cultural Center.
