Heads of UN Peace Missions in West Africa to meet in Dakar
25 November 2011 - Representatives of the United Nations (UN) peace missions in West Africa will hold their twenty-second high-level consultation in Dakar in order to facilitate the coordination of the action of the UN promoting the stability of the sub-region.
The meeting is chaired by Mr. Said Djinnit, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) for West Africa (UNOWA) and will bring together Ms. Ellen Margrethe Løj, SRSG in Liberia (UNMIL);Mr. Albert Gerard Koenders, SRSG in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI);Mr. Joseph Mutaboba, SRSG in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) and Michael von Schulenburg, Executive Representative for the UN Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL) also participated.
The Heads of Missions in West Africa will exchange their views on the situation in the sub-region and the status of implementation of the West Africa Coast Initiative (WACI), a partnership between UNODC, the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA), the Department of Political Affairs (DPA), the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and INTERPOL supports regional efforts in addressing drug use, trafficking and organized crime.
