On 2 May, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Ester Fernandes, announced the suspension of eight regional governors, all of whom were perceived as being aligned with PRS. The PRS parliamentary leader denounced the measure as a violation of the agreement on principles reached between the two parties in March and April under the aegis of the Catholic bishop of Bissau. After weeks of consultations facilitated by ECOWAS, PRS recognized the prerogative of the PAIGC Minister to nominate regional governors.
