Bilateral and multilateral partners hold consultations on Security Council Resolution 2048

25 May 2012 - As part of their regular consultations on Guinea-Bissau, ambassadors and representatives of international organisations today held a consultive meeting chaired by the Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of UNIOGBIS, Joseph Mutaboba, to discuss the implementantion of Security Council Resolution 2048 (18 May 2012).

 

With specific regard to paragraph 3, the resolution "requests the Secretary-General to be actively engaged in this process, in order to harmonize the respective positions of international bilateral and multilateral partners", particularly the African Union (AU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) and the European Union (EU).It also calls for "ensuring maximum coordination and complementarity of international efforts, to develop a comprehensive integrated strategy with concrete measures aimed at implementing security sector reform, political and economic reforms, combating drug-trafficking and fighting impunity".

Participants had fruitful exchanges and agreed to remain engaged towards the normalization of the political and socio economic situation in Guinea-Bissau within the framework of the Security Council Resolution 2048.

The meeting brought together the ambassadors of Brazil, China, Cuba, Cape Verde, France, Nigeria, Portugal, Russia, South African, Senegal and European Union (EU), African Union (AU) Special Representative and representatives of Angola, Spain, USA , ECOWAS, UEMOA and World Bank as well as CPLP Executive Secretary.
