Work continues on the first Bissau-Guinean soap opera
Around 50 participants discussed the different aspects of Bissau-Guinean life, culture and traditions to be included in the series entitled “Sun and sweat”, inspired by the national anthem.
The retreat, which took place at UNIOGBIS premises, in presence of Mr. João Cornélio, Director-General for Culture, was attended by UN agencies in Guinea-Bissau, Government and civil society experts in the fields of health, education, justice, peacebuilding, national reconciliation, among others.
Discussions were led by Mr. Abdulai Sila, President of the Writers’ Association and coordinator for the project, who highlighted the social transformative power of the soap opera: “It is only when we believe and are able to imagine a better county that we can build it!”
The soap opera project, aimed at behavior change and developing educational content for peacebuilding, is funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund, in the context of the Immediate Response Facility project in support of the media sector, coordinated by UNIOGBIS and managed by UNDP.
