On March 8 another International Women's Day was celebrated in Guinea-Bissau, under the slogan "50/50 by 2030: Promotion of equality between men and women" with various initiatives to recall the struggle of Bissau-Guinean women, their difficulties and achievements throughout the decades in the struggle for rights and equal opportunities.
Bissau, March 2, 2016 (UNIOGBIS / UIP) - Concerned about the political situation, Bissau-Guineans call on political actors to take into account the recommendations of the UN Security Council that on 26 February extended the mandate of the Integrated UN Office for Peacebuilding in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) for another year.

A group of 15 MPs of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC) joined those of the main opposition Party for Social Renewal (PRS) thus obtaining the majority, and decided to continue parliamentary proceedings after the Parliament Speaker, Cipriano Cassama, suspended the 18 January session on the government program, due to disturbances in the room.

In an attempt to push through his government program in the National Popular Assembly for the second time on Monday, PAIGC expelled and requested the replacement of 15 of its MPs last Friday - whom had prevented the approval of the government program last 23 December.
