Government and UNICEF on public cleaning

9 August 2014 - Prime Minister, the Minister of Public Health and UNICEF country Representative attended the signature of a protocol between the government and Ajuda Sports Club, Bissau, as well as with the neighbours association, leaded by youth, regarding the local organization and public cleaning to prevent epidemics.

Prime Minister Domingos Simões Pereira, minister Valentina Mendes and UNICEF country representative Abubacar Sultan, among other personalities were hosted at Ajuda Sport Club by its president, representatives of the neighbors and youth where, before the press, GD for Sports, from the Secretary of State for Youth, Culture and Sports, witnessed the signature of the protocol.

Domingos Simões Pereira, Valentina Mendes, Abubacar Sultan and the entourage walked down the road to the local football field, where two youth teams were playing. The president of the club explained that the place was before a garbage field: "We will not stop until we accomplish with our duties and objectives", he said, insisting on having "minimum conditions to practice sports, with the help of the population not to through garbage in the field".

Then, the entourage went again up road to the local market, which was visited in detail to listen to the explanations on the care needed to keep the premises clean, as well as the ditches.

Guinea-Bissau government leader, his minister of Public Health and UNICEF country representative were also invited to Ajuda Health Center, to witness closely the hygienic conditions and, finally, the entourage went to the local church to meet the team from the Pastoral for Children Care.

Abubacar Sultan, in the end, summarized to the press: "We witnessed an excellent partnership opportunity, in which each stakeholder has its role. The community, through a youth organization with social responsibilities, and a sports club requested government support and signed a protocol allowing them to go behold their limited possibilities. UNICEF is an add value to supplement what government or the community could not do all by themselves.
