DSRSG attends ECOWAS medal parade

05 August 2014 - The first ceremony for the presentation of medals for good service to ECOMIB in Guinea-Bissau was held in a hotel in Bissau where 15 officers were awarded - including one woman - by national and international officials.

The event was attended by the Minister of Defense, Cadi Seidi, National Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff, António Indjai and national officers.

The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Special Representative of UNIOGBIS, Marco Carmignani, and the head of the section of Rule of Law and Security Institutions, Antero Lopes.
ECOMIB medals are given by the ECOWAS Commission to military and police forces participating in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in Guinea-Bissau.

These medals are inspired in similar operations conducted by ECOWAS in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Mali.
