UNODC trains judges, magistrates and PJ officials in specialized investigative techniques

After congratulating the Judiciary Police on recent and massive drug seizures, UN Secretary-General Special Representative in Guinea-Bissau, Rosine Hadizatou Sori Coulibaly, said: “The problem of drug trafficking in Guinea-Bissau remains a matter of concern for the government and the subregion, as it presents major obstacles to the peaceful development and stability of the country. "While we are still trying to assess the real extent of the problems in the country, we are confident that effective and effective law enforcement and justice systems are essential to guaranteeing Bissau-Guineans access to justice and human security, which will protect and strengthen communities in combat the malaise of drug trafficking and assist in preventing the activities of criminal networks operating in Guinea-Bissau and the subregion. ”

She also recalled that the effort to combat drug trafficking and organized crime “is also crucial to mitigating corruption, enabling the proper functioning of state institutions, good governance and the rule of law. None of us can be comfortable with the fact that despite its considerable natural resources, Guinea-Bissau remains at the bottom of the human development ranking and at the same time is increasingly challenged by corruption and money laundering. This is undermining the country's efforts to implement the 2030 sustainable development agenda and the promise to leave no one behind. ”

“UNIOGBIS will continue to work closely with UNODC, under the mandate of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2458 (2019), to provide technical support to the Guinea-Bissau government to combat drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, ” she said, in the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Justice and the representative of UNODC.
