United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding visited Bissau after the presidential elections

About the electoral dispute the UN Deputy Secretary-General said she was satisfied that political actors had resorted to "legal means to resolve" it.

Accompanied by Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and Sahel and Rosine Sori-Coulibaly, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Guinea-Bissau, Rosemary di Carlo, held several high-level meetings with the country's authorities - Government, the President of the ANP, Cipriano Cassamá, and President José Mário Vaz.

After a working lunch with the diplomatic community resident in Bissau, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding concluded her visit to Bissau with meetings with Umaro Sissoko Embaló, declared the winner of the presidential election, and the other finalist candidate, Domingos Simões Pereira.

"We have been following the latest developments in the country, thanks to SRSG Sori-Coulibaly and his team. We also maintain close coordination with other international partners, in particular with ECOWAS," explained the Deputy Secretary-General.
