UN Women promotes a national workshop on parity law and the lessons learned in the last parliamentary elections

This event will allow participants to analyze the legal framework of the Guinean political system, namely the constitution of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, parity law, electoral law and the framework law of political parties, in view of the international commitments undertaken in the framework of Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

This workshop will also serve as an opportunity to discuss and evaluate the role of national and international actors in supporting women's participation in politics and decision-making, and, therefore, to develop a medium- and long-term strategy with objectives, with a view to further increasing the indicators of women's political participation.

The recent formation of the inclusive government with 35.48% of women represents an important advance in the field of gender equality and placed Guinea Bissau at the level of the first country in West Africa with an inclusive and balanced government, allowing both the sexes reveal their ability to improve the population's living conditions.

The consolidation of these achievements translates into an obligation and responsibility of all those who believe that gender equality is the main foundation for achieving peace and inclusive development.

The opening ceremony of this event will be chaired by the Minister of Women, Family and Social Protection Dr. Cadi Seide and will be attended by the Special Interim Representative of the UN Secretary-General In Guinea-Bissau and the UN Regional Councilor Women in governance and women's political participation.
