A Technical Assessment Mission arrives in Guinea-Bissau

18 March 2012 - A UN Technical Assessment Mission (TAM), arrived in Guinea-Bissau over the weekend (16-17 March). The Mission will hold meetings with representatives of the United Nations system, national stakeholders, international community, political parties, civil society and, the Guinean League for Human Rights.

The main objective of the Technical Assessment Mission (TAM) will be to make recommendations on possible adjustments to UNIOGBIS' mandate, structure and strength and, more generally, to the support provided by the UN in the country.

In particular, the TAM will validate an assessment of the overall political, security and human rights situation in the country, prepared before hand by the UN presence in the field; assess the status of implementation including key challenges of UNIOGBIS' mandate.

The mission which ends on 27 March is made up of a dozen of UN officials from Brindisi, Dakar, Geneva and New York.
