Strengthening the operational capacity of the Women Mediators Network

After two regional training courses held in June, 48 community leaders (28 women and 20 men), members of the WMN and other mediation actors on the ground, were selected to participate in this advanced training course at national level. The training aimed at reinforcing and guiding the operationalization of local level mediation. It is also intended to contribute to strengthening coordination, communication, advocacy and leadership skills.

Gender Unit has been working with a team of experts and with the WMN to increase their technical competence and expertise to support mediation initiatives and promote community dialogue and peacebuilding processes in GB, as well as strengthen their operational structure and managerial tools.

This is part of the project "Support for political dialogue and national reconciliation in Guinea-Bissau" financed by the PBF and implemented by UNIOGBIS.

Similar Women Mediators Networks exist in the Western Africa region and across the globe and bring together local, national and higher-level expertise of women engaged in conflict prevention and resolution in their conflict-affected or post-conflict context to strengthen the voice of women and their effective participation in peacebuilding.
