Ramos-Horta hands over second edition of compendium of laws to Supreme Court President

21 March 2013 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Guinea-Bissau, José Ramos-Horta, paid a courtesy visit on Thursday to Supreme Court President Paulo Sanhá.

During the visit, he presented to Mr. Sanhá the second edition of the Colectânea Fundamental de Direito Penal e Legislação Complementar, a compendium of penal laws and complementary legislation published by the UN Integrated Peace-Building Support in Guinea-Bissau, UNIOGBIS. After the visit, both Ramos-Horta and Sanhá noted that the book would facilitate the work of magistrates and other legal professionals.

The second edition of the compendium, which has more than 556 pages, is made up, like the first, of legislative texts that cover a wide variety of thematic areas related to penal law. It is prefaced by the former President of the Supreme Court and of Guinea's Supreme Judicial Council, Ms. Maria do Céu Silva Monteiro.

The publishing of the book is among initiatives carried out by UNIOGBIS within the framework of the reform of the security, justice and defence sectors.
