SRSG visits Bafatá Region of Guinea-Bissau

10 September 2014 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Guinea-Bissau (SRSG), Miguel Trovoada, visited on Tuesday the Bafatá Region of Guinea-Bissau.

The trip of the Head of UNIOGBIS to the eastern region followed his first visit on 5 September to São Domingos, north of the country. These visits are part of a regular program of contacts with the regional offices of UNIOGBIS.

The SRSG visited the local Administration, the regional hospital and court of Bafatá, as well as the regional Police Station and the Correctional Center.

In a meeting at the regional Office of UNIOGBIS, the SRSG also met with the representative of the Platform of Non-Governmental Organizations in the region.

Miguel Trovoada, as he did in São Domingos, reaffirmed that the United Nations is available to support the people of Guinea-Bissau in line with the priorities set by their legitimate representatives.

The efficiency of such support depends on a climate of peace and stability in the country, added the Head of the UN in Guinea-Bissau.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, visiting Bafatá on that occasion, made himself available to host and accompany the SRSG in his program of activities.
