All Human Rights, for All People, Every Day

9 December 2014 - The world celebrates International Human Rights Day, like every year, on Wednesday, 10 December, under the theme "All Human Rights, for All People, Every Day".

"For many people in Guinea-Bissau, this is not yet a reality. But, together, we can make it happen", says the UN mission in the country, which is organizing a series of activities to mark the Human Rights week.

On 10-11 December, the Brazilian Cultural Centre hosts Human Rights film screenings beginning at 19:00, followed by a discussion.
- On Wednesday night, the film will be "Invictus", which tackles the topic of racial equality, and of the right of all people to fully participate in the cultural and social life of the state;
- On Thursday night, the film "The First Grader", tackling the right to education and non-discrimination on the basis of age.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Day is celebrated throughout this week in Cacheu, Bafata, Gabu and Buba, in collaboration with local authorities and civil society organizations, through public marches, cultural happenings, awareness raising activities and Human Rights film screenings.

For UNIOGBIS, "together, we can help transform the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into a reality for all Bissau-Guineans".

On 10 December 1948, the nations of the world came together to adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This seminal Declaration was the first global document to recognize the inherent dignity, and the equal and inalienable rights, of all members of the human family.
