SRSG Trovoada in New York to attend SC and ICG-GB meetings on Guinea-Bissau

12 November 2014 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Guinea-Bissau -SRSG-, Miguel Trovoada, is heading to New York for high-level meetings on Guinea-Bissau.

On 18 November, SRSG Trovoada will participate in separate meetings of the UN Security Council and the International Contact Group on Guinea-Bissau (ICG-GB) on the situation in the country.

The ICG-GB was established in 2006 in the margins of the 61st session of the General Assembly by a joint initiative of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP, Portuguese acronym), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Portugal.

The ICG-GB serves as a platform for coordinating and harmonising the interventions of Guinea-Bissau's partners with the dual objective of achieving political stability and economic recovery. To date, it has held nine meetings; the last one took place on 7 June 2012 in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire).

The members of the ICG-GB are: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Spain, France, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria, Portugal, Senegal, as well as the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), European Union (EU), CPLP, ECOWAS, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA, French acronym), the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The ICG-GB is currently co-chaired by CPLP and ECOWAS represented respectively by Timor Leste and Ghana.
