UNIOGBIS offers all World Cup games to Guineans

8 June 2014 - UNIOGBIS and Bissau-Guinean government are granting free and live World Cup games to Guineans from 12 June to 13 July 2013 in various locations across the country.

This unprecedented initiative in the country was presented today at a news conference at the Government Palace in Bissau, and was chaired by the Transitional Prime Minister, Rui Duarte Barros and SRSG José Ramos-Horta, alongside the National Security Coordinator, Commissioner-General of Public Order Police, Armando Nhaga.

This initiative also has the support of the Parliamentary Group of the British Parliament for Guinea-Bissau, through his coordinator Peter Thompson, who brought to the country in 2013, three dozen footballers, as ambassadors of sport, sent by Northern Ireland to promote peace and social cohesion Guinea-Bissau.

In Bissau the free and live Brazilian World Cup games will be screened at the 24 September National Stadium. 15.000 people are expected to attend daily.

The show begins 30 minutes before each encounter and ending 30 minutes after the game for a total of 64, including the final.

100 hundred Public Order Police Officers will be in charge of se-curity inside and outside the 24 September National Stadium. They must follow FIFA Contingency Plan, which also includes first aid to be providedin case of accidents and emergency evacuation.

These free and live World Cup games in Brazil will also be displayed in 12 other locations in the country with the support of regional offices of UNIOGBIS: Mansoa, Quinhamel, Cacheu, Bafatá, Bambadinca, Sao Do-mingo, Gabu, Catió and Bubaque and three in Bissau, thus further galvanizing daily over 3,000 football lovers.

This brings to 20,000 the average daily attendance for this initiative of SRSG José Ramos-Horta.

MTN Guinea-Bissau, Spacetel Guinea-Bissau and GB Minerals are the main sponsors. Their respective representatives also took part in today's news conference.
